Cookie Policy

This page explains which cookies and similar technologies (such as your browser's localStorage) HowLongUntil5.com ("the Site") uses, and how you can change your choice. The Site is run by Rene Jongsma. Contact: hello@howlonguntil5.com.

1. Analytics cookies (only with your consent)

When you first visit, a cookie banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Only if you click Accept do we load Google Tag Manager, which runs Google Analytics 4 to show us which pages are visited and how the timer is used. If you click Reject, no analytics tools are loaded and no analytics cookies are set.

• _ga: distinguishes visitors. Set by Google Analytics; expires after 2 years.
• _ga_*: keeps track of the current session. Set by Google Analytics; expires after 2 years.

These cookies are provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. See our Privacy Policy for what is collected and how long it is kept.

2. Strictly necessary storage and your preferences

These items are stored only in your own browser (localStorage), are never sent to us, and don't need consent:

• rj-consent: remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't ask on every page. Kept for 12 months.
• hlu5:v1: your countdown settings (finish time, start time, chime on/off and 12/24-hour clock), so the timer is ready next time.
• hlu5:theme: whether you chose the light or dark theme.

You can delete these at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

3. Advertising cookies

The Site does not use advertising cookies at the moment. If we add advertising (for example Google AdSense) in the future, we will update this page and the cookie banner first, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

4. Other third-party services

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and the celebration confetti script from the jsDelivr CDN, so your browser connects to those servers (which see your IP address). They do not set cookies on this Site.

5. Change or withdraw your choice

You can change your mind at any time. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything done before you withdrew it. Click the button below (or "Cookie settings" in the footer of every page) to open the banner again. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
